Galentine’s Day 2020

What is Galentine’s day? It started as fiction. In a 2010 episode of Parks and Recreation, Leslie, creative and crafty and bursting with kindness for the people she loves, invented a way to do something American culture hadn’t traditionally been too good at doing: celebrating, in an official capacity, the joys of female friendship.

“Every February 13, my ladyfriends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style,” Leslie says in the episode. “Ladies celebrating ladies.” And thus, Galentine’s Day was unofficially added to everyone’s calendar.
But really, with all those unofficial holidays out there like “national pizza day” why not have a day to bring women together to celebrate how amazing we are? Single, married, “it’s complicated”- who cares. Grab your girlfriends, mom, sisters, and make a day of it.

Best Way to Celebrate

Schedule a Group Spa Day

Have your friends over for dinner, or grab some dinner at a local spot.  Then just relax and spend a few hours eating, drinking, and enjoying each other’s company. Host a brunch at your house or rent out a table at your favorite local spot and invite all the women in your life who make you happy. Send a card

Buy or make note cards and write a short message to all your best girlfriends to let them know what they mean to you. Take a page from the TV show the day is based on and make small gifts for each of your friends to show them how much you appreciate them. You might even want to include a photo or two or an anecdote to remind them of the great times you’ve had together. Taking the time to write and send a handwritten note really shows how much you care.

Why We Love Galentine’s Day

1. It’s a great excuse to hang out with your besties

Life can get in the way of hanging out of friends — work, family, and the gym all end up getting prioritized over a couple hours spent with your girlfriends. Having a day like Galentine’s Day on the calendar gives us the excuse we need to set aside some time to really appreciate and enjoy the women who are always there for us.

2. Because it’s always a great time to celebrate women

Women, as mothers, sisters, aunts and friends, make our lives richer and fuller. Most women know there are few things as relaxing as spending a few hours with a group of girlfriends. It’s also invigorating and reviving. Nothing puts us in a better mood than hanging out with our ladies!

2. Because Self Care is important

Let’s face it ladies, we unknowingly put our needs last most of the time. It’s part of who we are as women – we care for everyone around us first. We should take every opportunity presented to us to self reflect, and do whatever it is that renews our spirit.
