Expert Advice: Winter Skin 101

The cold and dry weather can wreak havoc on our skin.  Whether you are oily and dry, incorporating oils into your daily skin care routine can dramatically improve skin hydration as well as helping keep it soft and supple. Downtown Neroli Salon & Spa Esthetician, Zuzia has all the tips and tricks to solve winter skin concerns.

Dry Skin

Look for moisturizers that are creams versus lotions. Creams are heavier and tend to be oil based so they are much more replenishing to the skin.
Essential oils can be added to your existing skin care products to boost hydration. I suggest adding ddd 2-3 drops to your cleanser and/or moisturizer. They can also be put directly on the skin before moisturizing.
Recommendation: Balancing Infusion for Dry Skin, Patchouli Singular Note (especially beneficial for flaky skin), Lavender Singular Note (hydrating and soothing),  Rose Absolut Singular Note (intensely hydrating)

Oily Skin

It’s important to remember that even oily skin needs to be replenished in the winter. Look for lotions, which tend to be lighter.

While it may seem counter-intuitive to use oils on oily skin, remember that not all oils are created equal. Using the appropriate oil on your skin can actually help control oil.
Recommendation: All Sensitive Moisturizer
Citrus oils help control excess oil in the skin (just think of citrus household cleaners designed to “cut grease”)
Recommendation: Tangerine Singular Note.  Can be added to cleanser and/or moisturizer
Also Tea Tree Oil (anti-bacterial and wonderful treatment for acne)

Pre-cleansing is another way to boost hydration. On dry skin, massage 6-7 drops of a composition oil over face. Moisten skin with water and follow with cleanser as usual.
Recommendation: Energizing Composition Oil
