The Year Ahead: Red Carpet Ready

The Golden Globes have kicked off the 2013 year of fashion trends with some stunning ensembles.  Now, it is your turn!  As you look to the year ahead, not only can you beat the cliche New Year resolutions and look trendy while at the gym, but with this blog topic of the series, you can be red carpet ready everywhere you go.  Though many of us would love to wake up in the morning to a hair and make up team that concludes with slipping into the perfect evening gown, our daily responsibilities, company dress code, and kids have other ideas for us.  There is an alternative of purchasing the right products to get a similar look, matching silhouettes to those of the red carpet gowns, and the satisfaction of knowing you dressed yourself for the day that ends with a happy and functional you.  Take a look at a few of my favorite fashions from the Golden Globes 2013 Red Carpet and note how I turn the idea of each gown into an everyday style.

The stripes of this gown could easily translate to a striped tank or fitted sweater to recreate the top portion of the silhouette.  Pair it with a trouser pant that has a crease down the front and a pointed toe shoe to continue the elongated illusion this gown generates.

Add some drama to your look by choosing a dress or top with gems or glitter that demand attention.

You may recall an earlier Fashion Friday blog post that explains several variations of tying a scarf.  Grab your favorite scarf, pull up that link, and recreate the gorgeous bow on this gown.  Pair it with a thick belt for a tiny-waisted silhouette and a great pair of slim-fit pants.

What’s wrong with a dramatic neckline for your night out?  Absolutely nothing.  Make sure you do it right by allowing proper proportions.  If you plan to show more skin along the neckline, cover your arms, opt for a longer dress length, or choose a wide-leg pant to offset the drama of a deep plunge.

Try a corset shell under a blazer to replicate this stunning top.  A mermaid silhouette in full length may not be practical for the office, but you can get a similar look with a pencil skirt or a mermaid style skirt with a shorter hem.

Now, find the red carpet trends that you love most and turn them into an everyday style that has you feeling like you deserve an award!
