IT’S RARE WHEN A YOUNG GIRL knows exactly what she wants to be when she grows up, but Kaitie, Madison Hair Designer, was one of those little girls.
Kaitie, who grew up with three sisters, blends her passion for creativity into her love for the beauty industry. She sources her inspiration from the unexpected, such as the hues of a tiger eye stone and the blues of Wisconsin sunsets (take a look at her Instagram).
Everyone, meet our friend and hair designer, Kaitie.
Where are you from/where were you born? Where do you fall in your family?
I grew up in Portage, WI but I currently live in Madison. I am one of 4 girls (my poor dad!). I have two older sisters and one younger sister.
Did you have a job/career before becoming a hair designer for Neroli?
I was previously an educator at a cosmetology school in Wisconsin Dells before coming to Aveda Institute Madison as a cosmetology educator, which then lead me to Neroli Salon and Brow Bar. Prior to my first experience in education, I was a stylist for four years in a salon.
What drew you to cosmetology?
I have always known that I wanted to be in the cosmetology industry. I love that this job allows me to be as creative as I want to be and that at the same time, I have the ability to make a small difference in my guest’s day.
What is a misconception people often have about your services?
Aside from styling, cutting, and coloring my guests hair, I also feel that it is my job to create a safe, renewing, and relaxing environment for each my guests.
What inspires you, both in work and in life?
My coworkers and students are a huge source of inspiration. I work alongside some pretty amazing people.
What is your favorite thing to do in Madison?
I love to go to thrift stores in unique neighbourhoods in Madison. Madison has amazing farmers markets all around the city multiple times a week and I try to go as much as I can. Madison also has some amazing restaurants which is great, since my fiance and I love food.
Favorite food? Do you have a pet?
My favorite food would be Mexican food and margaritas. I have two sweet kitties named Wiz and Khalifa. My fiance and I have slowly grown to be cat people.
