Summer Hair Care Tips

Summer is here (finally!). Just as we change our makeup routine to account for warmer temps, our hair care regimen needs a few adjustments as well.

Neroli hair designer, Ashlyn has all the tips and tricks to keep your tresses fresh and healthy all summer long.

Heat from the sun can burn the protein in hair, which can oxidize the color into unwanted tones, cause frizz, and leave the hair feeling brittle.

My fix: Aveda’s sun care protective hair veil. This product is water resistant and easy to apply to wet or dry hair. Just a few quick sprays throughout can defend your hair from UV damage. It lasts up to 16 hours and minimize color fading, damage, and dryness.

The sun can also bleach out color; color treated or natural colored hair. Don’t let the sun make your hair lose its luster.

My fix: Aveda’s after sun hair masque. Apply this masque and shampooing on damp hair from roots to ends and enjoy for 5 minutes, then rinse out. This will restore the sun-exposed hair, moisturize and help continue to defend against the sun after it’s rinsed out. Then apply Aveda sun care veil for extra protection.

Moisture in the air makes for major hair frizz. So while it’s nice and humid this summer, beware of bigger hair. Any type of damage done to the hair allows humidity to get in and cause the hair shaft to swell.

My fix: Aveda’s smooth infusion style prep. A few pumps of this product into damp hair will defend against humidity for up to 12 hours. Don’t forget to comb product though hair so it is evenly distributed.

Green hair? Chlorine can build up on the hair and leave it an unfavorable green color. It’s not just a problem for blonde hair; everyone should be protecting their hair from chlorine.

My fix: Aveda’s sun care hair and body cleanser. A color safe formula that will gently remove chlorine build up from the hair. Work throughout hair like a normal shampoo and follow up with a rich conditioner of your choice. While removing chlorine this shampoo also maintains moisture and can also be used as a body cleanser.
