From cozy knit sweaters to rich berry lipsticks, we LOVE fall. Nothing completes you autumn day ensemble better than a sweet & spicy cup of #PSL. Some may say basic, we say classic. Neroli Salon & Spa Nail Designer, Lisa, has created this festive design tutorial to keep your nails fresh that season….p.s. the ombré glitter goes with everything.
• Orangewood Stick
• Yellow Block Buffer
• Nail File
• Cuticle Oil (Aveda’s Beautifying Composition)
• Cuticle Softener (Aveda’s Cuticle Control)
• Cotton Rounds
• Nail Polish Remover (Zoya’s “Remove +” is my fav!)
• Base & Top Coat (Zoya’s “Anchor” & “Armor”)
• Nail Polish Colors
* For this design, I used the following colors:
– OPI’s: Gelato on my Mind, Alpine Snow, My Vampire is Buff, Amazon…Amazoff
– Acrylic paint or nail polish colors
– Fine point paint brush (I use a brush from Sally’s Beauty Supply from the brand “Winning Nails”)
– Flat Square Brush for ombré glitter
Prep time: 10 min
Polish time: 15 min
Art design: 20-30 min
Drying time: 30-45 min
Step 1: File nails with your nail file. When finished, apply cuticle softener (I use Aveda’s Cuticle Control) to your cuticles. Let sit on for 5 minutes, then rinse off. Push back cuticles with an orangewood stick.
Step 2: Apply cuticle oil (like Aveda’s Beautifying Composition) to cuticles and massage into nail beds to add hydration. Buff nails with your yellow block buffer as this will allow for a smooth surface.
Step 3: Prep nails for polish with nail polish remover. This step is really important because any oil or lotion that is on your nail won’t allow the polish to adhere and dry properly. Next, apply a thin base coat.
Step 4: Apply 2 color coats to nails, giving about 10 seconds to dry in between each layer. Applying thin coats is important so it can drop properly and evenly. Let nails dry for 10 minutes before starting art.
Step 5: Nail Art Time!
Step 6: Once your art has set for about 5 minutes, apply a thin top coat. Make sure to cap the edges of your nails to seal everything in, too! This step helps your polish application to last a lot longer.- If you did use the Zoya system, Finish with Zoya’s drying drops to help speed up drying time. Give nail polish about 30 minutes to fully dry, though Zoya sets in about 10 minutes.
Cream Colored Cup: Starting with your cream color paint/polish on your light blue nail, make two diagonal lines, forming the sides of the cup. Fill in the middle of the cup with paint, and finish with an oval shaped edge on top to form the outside rim of a coffee cup. Paint a few layers of your cream to help make it pop.Green “Starbucks” Logo: With your green paint, make a circle in the middle. I started with a smaller circle and enlarged it to the size I wanted. After the green is dry, you can add a cute flare by painting “PSL” in the middle.Coffee Glitter: Mix a little bit of glitter with top coat – then take your fine paint brush and paint a very thin oval to create the “PSL” spice.Ombré Glitter: Using the same glitter mixture with your flat square brush, feather the glitter around the curves of the cuticle. Concentrate most of the glitter at the cuticle, and pull a small amount down towards the tip of your nail to blend it out.Why Zoya?
It’s a Nail Product Line You’ll LOVE! Zoya Polish is great for your nails because: 1) They are a vegan, all natural brand and safer for the average consumer & 2) Zoya is a faster drying and longer lasting brand – so I get a super long wear with my polish, always! Not to mention, the fact that they dry faster than most other polish lines.
